Committee 2009/10

The committee run the club on a day to day basis, they ensure the club members are kept up to date about what's going on, they make decisions on behalf of the club as their elected representatives and organise training, competitions, socials and anything else that might need organising!

Captain (Tom Chamberlain)

I've been doing lifesaving for too long to remember now. I'm part of a beach lifeguard club at home and joined the club in Southampton in my Fresher year. Since then I've gotten really involved in competition, (something I'd never really done before), and enjoyed it thoroughly! It's my job to organise the general running of the club and to represent us at meetings etc.
You can contact me at captain [at] sulsc [dot] org

Vice Captain (Sarah Chalk)

I've been involved in lifesaving since I was 15 and have loved every minute of it. As Vice Captain it's my job to organise tuesday night training. On top of this I organise the awards training that takes place on tuesday nights. You can email me at vicecaptain [at] sulsc [dot] org

Secretary (Ele Evans)

I started basic life saving when I was 9 but didn't go any further than that until I came to uni. With the club I have completed my Bronze Medallion Award and my NPLQ so am now a qualified lifeguard! I am in my first year and have enjoyed every moment in the club. Feel free to contact me at secretary [at] sulsc [dot] org

Competitions Secretary (Rhys Clements)

Hey, I started Lifesaving in 2001, competing with my local club at RLSS National and Speed Championships. I joined the club as a fresher last October and things have been sweet. No matter what previous experience you have Lifesaving at University level is great and helps to teach and develop important life support and team based skills. Starting from about now I will be the Competition Secretary. So I will be organising the Fresher's Comp next October (with a lot of help), entering teams for next year's competitions and kinda running Thursday night training. But the club isn't just about competitions and so if you're keen to join but don't want to compete that's sweet too and there is still loads of stuff you can learn. You can contact me at competitions [at] sulsc [dot] org.

Treasurer (Marcus Williams)

So, where to begin? I started lifesaving in 2003 after being asked to body for someone else's exam. Since then I have become more involved in lifesaving and have enjoyed many new experiences and learnt plenty of skills. Since coming to university I have had a fresh new look at lifesaving and started to enjoy the competition side of it as well. My role is to organise the funds of the club so that all you lovely people can have awesome new kit to play around with during your training sessions such as fins, torp buoys and rescue boards. Come along and give it a go, you won't be disappointed! If you want more information you can find me at treasurer [at] sulsc [dot] org.

I've only been involved in lifesaving for a year but I love the sport and how it combines speed with teamwork and problem-solving. This year I've joined the committee as chief web-geek. If you notice any problems with the website or your e-mails not coming through properly, just let me know at comms [at] sulsc [dot] org
